Thesis Title: Spatial Porosity in Architecture
Thesis idea is to understand the earth, its natural formation, processes of transformation, its composition, material qualities and relating architecture with it. Architecture involves a respect for the properties of the natural materials and a respect for the harmonious relationship between the form/design and blending them into the surroundings with an honest expression of the function of the building. The proposal is for a residential building block which flows through the site and around the existing building blocks. In this way it retains the existing heritage of Mayo gardens, enhances spatial connection and usage and flourishes the environment. The idea is to introduce voids and spaces that would improve natural cross-ventilation and to make sure of respecting nature through effective study and choice of material. A major purpose is composing the new space with the old; there has to be a connectivity and harmony. All of this makes a space porous. Functionality of the building is associated with circulation and filtration with respect to the external environment.
